How to Apply for Certificated Employment
Dear Applicant:
The information provided below is designed to assist you in completing the application process required by ESU #9. If you have questions about the application process, please contact Jenise Straight, Director of Special Services, or Jan Hughes, secretary.
- Complete the application form.
- Educational Service Unit No. 9 policies on elimination of discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, or handicap, and non-discrimination information have been provided with the application packet. Please sign and return the cover sheet to verify that you have received a copy of the Unit's Affirmative Action Policies.
- Return the completed application and Affirmative Action Policies cover sheet to: ESU #9 Personnel Secretary, PO Box 2047, Hastings, NE 68902-2047.
- Request your college placement office to submit your transcripts and credentials of all undergraduate and graduate work to Personnel Secretary, Educational Service Unit #9.
- A personal interview is required as a part of the application process. You will be contacted for an interview.
- If employed by ESU #9, it will be necessary to submit your Nebraska Teaching Certificate to the Unit so that it can be registered. The certificate will be returned to the employee.
- All personally identifiable data items received by ESU #9 as part of the application process will be considered confidential and maintained in a manner that will assure confidentiality.
Certification
The person selected for a position with ESU #9 is responsible for obtaining proper Nebraska certification. You must hold a valid Nebraska certificate or show evidence that certification can be obtained prior to the beginning of the contract period. Information and applications for certification can be obtained from: Teacher Certification Office, Nebraska Department of Education, P. O. Box 94987, Lincoln, NE 68509-4987 or 402/471-2497. Fingerprint Requirement: All applicants for the first issuance of any certificate or permit to teach, counsel, supervise, or administer in elementary or secondary schools in Nebraska must file a complete set of his/her legible fingerprints with the Commissioner of Education or the Nebraska State Patrol unless the applicant has been a resident of Nebraska for at least five (5) years immediately preceding such application. The Commissioner of Education may deny issuance of a certificate or permit to any applicant who has a felony conviction or any misdemeanor conviction involving abuse, neglect, or sexual misconduct.
NOTE: Employment applications for individuals who were not selected or did not accept employment with ESU #9 will be held for one (1) year from the date of receipt of the application. Prior to disposal of the application file of each certificated candidate, ESU #9 will make reasonable efforts to return the individual's official copies of transcripts only. All other application materials will be destroyed without prior notice. (Taken from ESU #9 Administrative Policy #59)
